Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) – a third-party verification system for green buildings developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) – is the foremost program for the design, construction and operation of green buildings. And it is rapidly becoming a ‘must’ for new and retrofit building.

The operation of buildings and the construction of new buildings have had a negative impact on the environment for years. As a result, architects, builders and building owners alike are now turning to LEED to assist them in designing more environmentally conscious buildings and communities.

Notably, LEED-certified buildings cost less to operate, on average reducing energy and water bills by as much as 40 percent!

At Unicel, we have long maintained that LEED means we’re building for the next century. So, it is our mission to ensure that our products support green building. Our Vision Control® integrated louvers can contribute significantly toward obtaining LEED certification and/or improving a building’s LEED score as follows:

  1. Energy & Atmosphere (EA)
    1. Optimize energy performance (up to 18 points)
  2. Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ)
    1. Thermal comfort (up to 1 point)
    2. Interior lighting (up to 2 points)
    3. Daylight (up to 3 points)
    4. Quality Views (up to 1 point)
    5. Acoustic performance (up to 1 point)
  3. Innovation (IN)
    1. Intelligent control of louver tilt angle is used for controlling solar heat gain and
enhancing daylighting (up to 5 points).
